As part of the World Heart Day celebrations, the ‘Kottayam Cyclothon 2026’, organized by Caritas Hospital in association with Kottayam Cycling Club, and with the support of Malayala Manorama, Sargakshetra FM, Decathlon, Track & Trail, and Navya Cake & Bakers, concluded successfully on October 4.

The Cyclothon was organized with the aim of spreading awareness about the importance of a healthy lifestyle and the need to protect heart health. More than 700 participants took part in the event.

The 100-kilometre Cyclothon was flagged off at 5:30 AM by Shri Chandy Oommen MLA (Puthuppally). The 40-kilometre cycling ride was flagged off at 6:00 AM by Kottayam District Police Chief Shri Sabu Mathew IPS, while the 5-kilometre fun ride for children, titled 'A Little Ride for the Heart', was flagged off at 7:00 AM by Kottayam District Collector Shri Chetan Kumar Meena IAS.

Around 600 cyclists participated in the 100-kilometre and 40-kilometre cycling categories, while approximately 150 participants took part in the 5-kilometre fun ride.

Shri Navin Paul, a native of Kottayam who is continuing his inspirational journey across India on a bicycle under the initiative ‘India On Cycle’,was also present at the Cyclothon.

Rev. Dr. Binu Kunnath, Director & Chief Executive Officer, Caritas Hospital; Dr. Johny Joseph, HOD & Senior Consultant, Caritas Heart Institute; Joint Directors; hospital staff; and other dignitaries were present at the event.

With enthusiastic participation, the Cyclothon successfully conveyed the message of healthy living and heart health awareness. The event also became a unique gathering that brought together children and adults alike in the spirit of health, fitness, and community participation.
