Senior Consultant Cardiology

A cardiologist with more than 30 years of experience in wide ranging aspects Cardiology including Interventional Cardiology, Echocardiography, cardiac research, community educative programs, skill development training in cardiac sciences, and trainers training programs against lifestyle diseases.

Oversees and contribute as faculty in the Centre of excellence programs on cutting edge technologies in Interventional Cardiology and by the Caritas Heart Institute.

Dr. Johny contributed significantly to the conceptualization and installation of the Caritas Heart Institute and presently the HOD of Cardiology & Caritas Heart Institute.

Achievements and Expertise

Had exposure and training in Interventional Cardiology in SUT hospital Trivandrum

Madras Medical Mission and Railway Hospital Perumboor, Chennai in early 90's

Had training in advanced Echocardiography in Unikilinic, Aachen University, Germany

Formulated a home based program to regain lost fitness and presented Cardiological Society of India, state conference May 2018

Selected as the lead faculty to promote fitness initiatives by Cardiological Society of India, Kerala Chapter in 2020

 

Academic and Scientific positions 

Held scientific positions, secretary and president of Kottayam Heart Club, and secretary of Indian Academy of Echocardiography, Kerala Chapter

Currently the President of Academy of Echocardiography Kerala Chapter

At present, he is the president cum Chairman Scientific Committee of Cardiological Society of India, Kerala Chapter

In 2013 Dr Johny initiated a trainers training program for healthy life style fitness in collaboration with 100 local units Lions club

He conducts regular public educative presentations in healthy lifestyle to prevent heart diseases for the past 25 years

 

Research and Publications

‌Initiated research programs in the Caritas Hospital two decades and given valuable contributions to set up Ethics committee

‌Coordinated first collaborative voluntary data collection involving 17  hospitals in mid Kerala called 'Kottayam Heart Club STEMI registry’ on heart attacks. This model subsequently inspired an all Kerala project by Cardiological Society of India Kerala Chapter, leading to data publications in peer reviewed international journals

‌Took part in more than 10 International multicentre research trials as principal investigator whose results were published leading peer reviewed journals

He has contributed to the development and safe clinical of new key drugs including fondaparnux, Dabigartan Apixaban and edoxaban , Eicosa Pentyl via pivotal trials (OASIS7, RELY, ARISTOTLE, ENGAGE AF, REDUCE IT)

Presented a paper on the benefits of combining complimentary lung sonogram to routine echocardiography, in diagnosing acute heart failures with quickness and accuracy, at State Conference of Cardiological Society of India Kerala chapter 2009, first time in Kerala

Over past 10 years Caritas hospital has an experience of more than 3 lakh Echo studies in which this translational research has contributed. Invited to write chapters, based on the experience in  upcoming text books by ICMR and Cardiological Society of India
